Jacqueline Wilson book report by Erin O!

October 29, 2017

I have two favourite Jacqueline Wilson books. the first one is called Katy. It is about a girl ,who is eleven, and she has four siblings and every Sunday they go into their neighbors garden. they called it their secret garden. in the secret garden, they made a swing and Katy fell off the swing and was told she had to be in a wheel chair for a while. Parts of the story is sad but other parts are really heartwarming. Its about Katy getting through this and how people respond. It is an interesting novel and you really get into the characters!

My other favourite book is called sleepovers. It is a small book and it is a real page turner! it is about is five friends who all have sleepover party’s but one of them called Daisy is worried that people will make fun of her little sister who is disabled. this book is really good because it teaches you not to judge people if they’re different.

Jacquiline Wilson by Tilly

October 29, 2017

Jacqueline Wilson

Born in Bath, Somerset, 17th December 1945, Jacqueline Aitken was a quiet, dreamy girl which later came in very handy in writing some of the best-selling children’s books of the modern day. She came from a middle class family as an only child. Her father (Harry), was a Civil Servant; her mother (Biddy) was an antiques dealer. They did not get along, yet this would later be her inspiration for her books.

Jacquiline attended latchmere Primary school. As soon as she could read she read and read and read. She preferred books by Noel Streatfeild, yet she had read Little Women and What Katy Did a million times over again. And as soon as she could write she filled her bed room shelves with stories of her imaginary games scribbled into cheap Woolworths note pads. At nine, she wrote her first story, Meet the Magots, which was 21 sides long. It was about a family with seven children.  Although Jacquiline despised maths, she LOVED English. And so she would often get lost in an imaginary world rather than pay attention to the class, consequently, her teacher noticed and gave her the nickname ‘Jacky Daydream’ which would later be the name of her first biography.

She went on to Coomb Girls’ School, which she actively keeps in touch with to this day! Once she left school (at sixteen) she applied to work for a magazine called Jacky. Jacquiline had to tell them her talents, and what to this day is her award-winning talent? Of course, her imagination, and so she sent in a horror based story and got in!

Here Jacky would later fall in love with a printer named Millar Wilson.a new job for Millar at the police department meant the couple moved down south. They were happily married in 1965 when Jacky was only 19! A couple of years later they had a child named Emma. Yet divorced in 2004.

At first she wrote crime fiction novels. Jacky experimented with genres until in 1991 when she hit success with The story of Tracy Beaker. Now she has over 100 books!

Doctor Who 2018 companions. (By Lenny)

October 26, 2017

There are going to be three companions which means four people in the Tardis. Is this good or are you worried it may be a little packed? Here is a link as I could not get a picture embedded on this post.

These are my thoughts on 2018’s Doctor Who companions. I think they look like they would do well as Bradley Walsh, the middle aged man, is ,in my opinion , pretty funny and I would like to see him along side the Doctor. The others I have not seen much of but I think they were both in a TV show called Hollyoaks. I can not wait to see the four in action in 2018 and also Jodie Whittaker will be getting a new sonic and Tardis so that’s exciting. I am not sure what to expect from Chris Chibnall even though he directed 5 Doctor Who episodes in the past. I can’t wait to see Jodie’s new title sequence and will they fit all 4 names????? Any way that’s all from me. Please feel free to see my other posts and I’ll try make a post a week or a day if I’m lucky. Anyhow, bye

Jane Austen Biography (by Martha)

October 22, 2017

Jane Austen was born on the 16 December 1775 in Steventon,Hampshire,England to Cassandra and George Austen. She was the seventh child and second daughter (of course her and Cassandra would later on collaborate on a published work). Her parents were very well-respected community members. Her father was an Oxford-educated rector for a nearby Anglican parish. They were encouraged to read as their father had a very extensive library. They often wrote and put on their own plays.

In order to get a formal education Jane and Cassandra was sent off to boarding school. During this time, Jane and her sister caught typhus. With Jane nearly succumbing to the illness, making her very weak, her education was cut short and, even after she had recovered they lived with the family from that moment forward.

She was fascinated by the world of stories and so, in the 1790’s she started to craft her own novels. This is when she wrote Love and Friendship; a parody of romantic fiction made by a series of love letters.Using that framework, she unveiled her wit and dislike of sensibility, or romantic hysteria, a distinct perspective that would eventually characterize most of her later writing. The year after she wrote The History Of England, a thirty four page parody of historical writing with illustrations drawn by Cassandra.  These notebooks contained the novels, short stories, poems as well as plays, which are now referred to as  Jane’s Juvenilia.

Jane spent most of her early adulthood reading books, attending church, playing piano and socialising with her neighbours. In her extra hours she chose a book from her bookshelf and read it aloud to her family occasionally one of the ones she’d written herself. She continued to write, developing more ambitious works such as Lady Susan.

In 1801 Jane Austen and her family moved to Bath. Then in 1805 her father died after a short illness. As a result the family lost money and had to travel from place to place to save money. It was not until 1809 that they found a suitable living situation, at Jane’s brother Edwards house in Chawton.

Now in her 30’s, Janes’ most famous novels were published, like First Impressions (Pride and Prejudice), Elinor and Marianne (Sense and Sensibility) and Susan (Northanger Abbey), Mansfield Park and Emma.

In 1816, at the age of 41, Jane started to become ill with what some might say Addison’s disease. She made some very impressive efforts to keep writing at a normal pace, editing old works as well as writing a new one called The Brothers, which was published shortly after her death as Sanditon as well as her novel Persuasion which was posthumously. Some time later, Jane’s disease reached such a degree, she had to stop writing. Sadly, she died on the 18 July 1817 in Winchester, Hampshire,England.

He left home at 18, troubled and traumatised by his childhood. then he started working at colchester zoo.  Jeremy had a close bond with guy and prissy, the two orang-utans.

he left colchester zoo and began working at Gordan zoo, where little amy,the baby orang-utan, was born. her birth was trouble free, however, she was poorly afterwards as her mother rejected her at such a young age. Jeremy hand reared her, borrowing an incubator from a hospital and force feeding her milk every two hours.

a year later, Jeremy was in a car crash with his son, Jamie and his girlfriend, Meryl. Meryl didn’t suffer any injuries, Jeremy was unconscious, with terrible head wounds. Amy also suffered head wounds, but was not uncounsios. She saved Jeremys life , as she cradled his head and applied pressure with her hand to the back of his head to stop the bleeding.

african elephant fact file (: :D:D (By Erin B)

October 15, 2017

The African elephantis the largest mammal on land. These enormous grey and wrinkly creatures can weigh over 10 tons ( as much as 10 average cars!!!!!!!)they can be anywhere from 2.5 to 4 meters tall.omg . Elephants adapt easily and can be found in lots of different of habitats throughout Africa from crowded forests to open plains in desserts . The females and young live in herds ,while the stronger bulls are normally by themselves or in smaller all-male herds.

Elephants are herbivores and will eat any vegetation available to them, be it grass, leaves, fruit or bark, so in the dessert where they sometimes live, food can be scarce . These large animals can live up to 65 years and have only a few predators that are able to kill them because they are so large, however Hyenas and lions are a threat to the calves because they aren’t THAT big and in certain areas lions have adapted to kill ADULT elephants because food is scarce for lions so they need to be able to kill and eat anything in its way.

There are about 470, 000 ( acually not a lot)African elephants in the wild in herds that wander through 37 African countries.Sadly, elephants get poached all the time, by stupid, greedy people who just want money as ivory(aka: elephant tusk) is very expensive and the poachers can easily sell it for a lot of money.

here are some cool facts about elephants.

  • Elephants purr like cats as a means of communication even though they are the opposite of daity, fluffy little kittys !
  • African elephants care for wounded individuals in the herd and can even identify the bones of deceased members also, if a baby from the herd dies, they carry it around as they walk to the nearest water holes.
  • When an elephant calf is not feeding, it might suck its trunk for comfort, just as a human baby would suck its thumb. If a baby elephant is distressed, the entire family will rumble and go over to touch and calm it down.
  • Elephants eat constantly throughout the day and night and can consume up to 5% of their body mass, which is a lot of food, when you weigh 10 tonnes.
  • An elephant’s trunk serves as a nose, a hand, an extra foot, a signaling device, a tool for gathering food, siphoning water, dusting & digging and much more so even though to us it just looks like a funny tube to us, it plays a vital role in an elephants life style
  • The elephant brain is the largest of all land mammals with a mass of over 5kg ( 5000kg). It is similar in structure to the human brain although they have a far far better memory than us.
  • Elephants are able to recognize themselves using mirrors. Self-recognition indicates a very high level of awareness, restricted only to few intelligent animals.

here is a video of elephants
